Christmas Days

Christmas Day

Christmas Day is the celebration of the birth of our Lord God Jesus Christ which is accompanied with several traditions and practices. These practices and customs of the Christmas Day are mostly shaped by the early winter festivals. Christmas Day is marked by the decoration of the Christmas tree, the coming of Santa Claus and the sharing of Christmas gifts and Christmas cards.

Every year most of us celebrate Christmas Day on the 25th of December, though Christmas Day is celebrated by few Eastern Orthodox Churches on the 7th of January and by the Armenian Apostolic Church on the 6th of January. These dates on the Gregorian Calendar actually match the date of 25th December on the Julian Calendar. However, none of these dates are not the real date of birth of Lord Jesus, and are only time-honored. We celebrate Christmas Eve on 24th of December, the day before the Christmas.

In early times, before the beginning of the celebrations of Christmas Day, a winter festival was used to be celebrated popularly in various cultures partly due to the carrying of the agricultural activities in a minimal amount in winter. In recent times the popularity of the celebration of Christmas Day maintains the long-lasting tradition of celebrating winter festivals.
