In the Christian churches in the west the beginning of the Christmas season is marked by Christmas Eve. On the 24th of December Christmas Eve services like The Mass of the Virgil are conducted in the afternoon or early evening. This continues until the Christmas feast of the Baptism of the Lord which is followed by the Epiphany.
Many catholics attend a Christmas Eve Service known as the Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve. This universal Christmas Eve service is held in churches all over the world. This beautifully conducted Christmas Eve service marks the beginning of Christmas Day. Even though it is known as the midnight Mass many churches start the Christmas Eve services as early as six or seven o'clock in the evening.
