  • Synopsis

It’s A Wonderful Life begins with God is responding to people’s prayers. Angel of Clarence Oddbody is assigned for torturing George Bailey. George lives in small town of Bedford Falls and he has dream of the world tour. For his desire, he spends his entire youth finding out the way out of the town. He failed every time. But he lands up running the small family business Building & Loan to protect his hometown from evil banker Mr. Potter.

He keeps a little profit form his home town people. Everything fails when Banker Potter hooks an $8,000 deposit from George on the day before Christmas. George is putting in the jail. George feels so frustrated and humiliated and suicidal that he wishes he would never been born. Clarence grants him that wish.

George finds himself in a world where he never existed. The place is only the new town of Pottersville. The place is something like a red-lighted district.

The people living in Pottersville are pathetic. They have no hope for a better life. Even only two kinds of women available in Pottersville: prostitutes and uptight old-maid librarians.

The worst thing about the place is that they have no urge for a better life. George helps people so that they can stand up on their own. It’s the only way to escape Potter’s slums. He escapes from the place. Sam Wainwright comes as the true force of the god. He’s an old industrialist and friend of George’s who has the money to save both Bedford Falls and George Bailey. His family collects money from the townspeople to save him and his business.

Ultimately It’s A Wonderful Life is all about money. It’s all about gifts. May be the pop-culture of Christmas has many dimensions to unfold.
