A Christmas Carol

A Christmas Carol (2001) is an animated British movie directed by Jimmy T. Murakami. The movie is based on the classic novel by the famous author Charles Dickens. The actors like Nicholas Cage, Kate Winslet, Simon Callow have given their voice for the characters. Kate Winslet sang the film's theme song 'What if'.

The film is based on a classic but in the treatment of the movie is not so promising. The story is a great story and many times told in different media. If you want to spend your Christmas holiday with your family then here is a short review of A Christmas Carol.

The movie begins with a live-scene where novelist Charles Dickens was live-reading a book, set in the year 1857, in Boston. From there the animated part begins. Ebenezer Scrooge (voiced by Simon Callow) is a businessman who has a very tight hand. He lives in Victorian London. He is short-tempered, heartless money-monger. Scrooge has a humble clerk, Bob Cratchit (voiced by Rhys Ifans), whom he gives a salary which barely supports his family – wife (Juliet Stevenson) and a son lovingly called Tiny Tim.

On the Christmas Eve, Scrooge with his frightening surprise is getting the visitations of the ghost of Scrooge's deceased business partner, Jacob Marley (Nicolas Cage). Three phantoms represent Christmases Past, Present and Future. Scrooge was an unpleasant person. But after witnessing these visions, he gets the light of wisdom. After this he becomes a very charitable man with a good heart.

A Christmas Carol is a bit disappointment from the director's capability. The editing part is also partially good. The best part of A Christmas Carol is the animation quality. But still it is a good family movie that can be recommended for viewing during Christmas. For more details on Christmas movies, surf through the pages of christmas.dgreetings.com.
