A Christmas Story

A Christmas Story is a film made in 1983, based on Jean Shepherd's short stories. The film is directed by Bob Clark. The film goes back to 1940's Indiana. Ralphie Parkar (played by Peter Billingsley) is an 8 year old boy wishes to have a Red Ryder, 200 shot range model BB Gun, as his Christmas present. He can go to any extent for the BB gun without listening to the warning of elder people in his family. They say to him that he’ll shoot his eyes out with the gun. Santa doesn’t want to but still gives him a BB Gun for Christmas. Ralphie comes out eagerly from the house wearing boots and pajamas to try the gun, but he is not able to manage the gun. He ends up shooting off his glasses. He also gets a bit injured and convinced that he will really shoot his eyes out.

Besides this, the film has many subplots, like the confrontations with the neighborhood Scut Farcus. Randy, younger brother of Ralphie, always used to refuse to eat. His friend Flick gets his tongue stuck to the freezing lamppost on a triple-dog-dare; the parents fighting over a prize – a leg lamp. These scenes make the movie really memorable.

A Christmas Story is a comedy movie with a satirical touch and has a message at the end. But the movie did not do well in the box-office. Marketing of the movie was targeted at children and it did not work out for the movie. There is hardly any fault in the making of the movie.

The story is good, the performance is perfect and the direction is stellar. You are sure to laugh throughout the movie. The sequel to A Christmas Story, A Summer Story was made in the mid 90’s. Know more about Christmas movies from the pages of christmas.dgreetings.com.
