  • Synopsis of the movie

    Cary Grant (Dudley) is an angel. Dudley as an angel is not so important one. He comes in the earth to give answer to the Bishop's prayer. Only the clergyman knows about the fact that Dudley is an angel. Bishop Henry Brougham (David Niven), has a wish to build up a new cathedral. But he is so many problems to raise money to build a cathedral. There is a wealthy widow who could help Henry is Mrs. Hamilton (Gladys Cooper) but she is not giving. Henry was so involved in his dream that he moved away from his family- his wife Julia Brougham (Loretta Young) and his daughter Debby. Dudley comes in their life truly like an angel.

    He gives happiness to Julia. Eventually he falls in love with Julia. Henry becomes jealous of Dudley as his wife is having a good time with Dudley. Then he realized that how much he is missing the moments of love with Julia. Even Julia feels the affection for Henry again. Dudley turns the soul of the cold hearted Mrs. Hamilton. She decides to donate her wealth not to build a cathedral but to feed the poor and tend to their needs. So, Dudley has to leave the place and they are also no longer will remember him. He goes back with a broken heart. Dudley goes back in the snow, leaving behind a world where people have realized the value of of love in their live and also the immaterial things like courage, joy and compassion.

    The film has a soulful drama with pure spirit of Christmas. This is a very romantic movie. Cary Grant is awful in every scene, specially at the end where he is leaving this materialistic world.
