Evergreen trees gained importance in Christianity since the time Saint Boniface converted the Germans into Christianity. One day he saw the German worshiping an oak tree. He got very angry and cut down the tree. However in its place a little fir tree sprung up. Thereafter Saint Boniface declared the fir tree as a symbol of Christianity.
This custom of using beautifully decorated evergreen trees on Christmas was adopted into Christianity by Martin Luther. So from a pagan symbol the Christmas tree became an evergreen symbol of the Holy Trinity.
The Christmas tree history gained importance when Queen Victoria married the young German prince Albert. Prince Albert gifted a beautifully decorated Christmas tree to the royal family. Naturally all the people of the kingdom emulated it and since then Christmas trees have become an important part of Christmas decorations.
